A routine blood collection is usually collected for various diagnostic tests, such as measuring blood cell counts, assessing organ function, or monitoring health conditions.

Fasting is when you consume no food or drinks, with the exception of water, for a set period of time. Eating or drinking before the collection may raise the levels of a particular substance in the blood, leading to inaccurate results. Incorrect results could in turn lead to an incorrect diagnosis.

Fasting Collection Guidelines

The glucose tolerance test measures your body’s response to sugar (glucose). The glucose tolerance test can be used to screen for Type 2 Diabetes. More commonly, a modified version of the glucose tolerance test is used to diagnose gestational diabetes, a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy.

This test can’t be booked online. To book a Glucose Tolerance test you will need to call (306) 352-9114.

Speed: Rapid delivery ensures faster test results and quicker access to medical care if needed.

Specialization: Our staff is fully trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG). This specialized training ensures the safe transport of specimens to the lab, mitigating risks and promoting safety.

Missed Collection

If the specimen cannot be obtained after two unsuccessful attempts, the client will have the opportunity to reschedule the collection with another qualified professional or ask for a refund of the total cost of the service booked.

Repeat Collection

To maintain sample integrity, Haztech follows strict guidelines for the collection and transportation of samples to the testing laboratory for analysis. In some cases, a sample may be compromised and deemed unsuitable for testing. If your sample is rejected due to an error by Haztech, you will be notified of such and given the opportunity to schedule a repeat collection at no cost to you.

To reduce potential risks like minor bruising, tingling and painful swelling after blood collection, the patient must adhere to the following instructions.

  • Apply firm pressure to the puncture site as long as necessary to stop the bleeding.
  • Leave the bandage for 10-15 minutes after collection.
  • Do not subject the site to pressure (from purse straps, tote and/or shopping bags, etc.) and to protect the arm from exertion for several hours so as not to reopen the wound.
  • If bruising occurs, place an ice pack or cold compress to the affected area for about 20 minutes, a few times during the first 24 hours.
